History of BNNS and the Company

What Are Boron Nitride Nanosheets?

The Next Generation Nanomaterial

Boron nitride nanosheets (BNNSs or white graphene) is a 2D material consisting of hexagonal arrays of boron and nitrogen atoms that can be an incredibly strong tensile reinforcement in other materials.

This form enables them to be many times stronger, more flexible, thermally conductive, heat resistant, and more durable than any metal or carbon fibre. In low concentrations, white graphene is transparent.

White graphene presents several additional and superior properties to black graphene (carbon) while matching its strength and functionality in material composites. Its distinct properties makes it attractive for various applications. Although white graphene and black graphene share a similar structure, black graphene – unlike white graphene – cannot withstand high temperatures, is toxic, inflexible, electrically conductive, and break down in oxidizing environments.

A brief history of boron nitride nanosheets

1. Joint Venture Research Agreement signed between Deakin University, PPK Group Ltd and BNNT Technology Pty Ltd September 2019

The joint venture established a framework for commercialisation of production and application of boron nitride nanomaterials. Filing of core patent application for a method of manufacture of boron nitride nanosheets.

2. White Graphene Ltd founded October 2020

Execution of exclusive IP licenses. Commencement of initial R&D program at Deakin to scale up the manufacture of white graphene.

3. First pilot line live 2021 – 2022

Commencement of R&D at Deakin to develop commercial applications for white graphene, leading to pilot production line in May 2022.

4. Winner sustainability pitch competition – May 2023
